Mahomes and Kelce, the star tight end and boyfriend of Taylor Swift, were both break-in victims at their homes in the Kansas City area.
“Obviously, it’s frustrating, disappointing,” Mahomes told reporters in advance of his team’s game Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. “I can’t get into too many of the details because the investigation is still ongoing. But obviously it’s something that you don’t want to happen to, really, anybody but obviously yourself.”
Mahomes’ house in Belton, Missouri, was hit early Oct. 6, while Kelce’s place in Leawood, Kansas, was broken into Oct. 7.
They were apparently not home as they prepared for Kansas City’s “Monday Night Football” win over the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 7. Mahomes, though, declined to discuss his whereabouts at the time burglars struck.
“I can’t speak too much about the details of everything, just with the investigation going on,” Mahomes said. “But I’m sure at some point that will be talked about.”
It wasn’t immediately clear what was taken from Mahomes’ home.
A police report obtained by NBC affiliate KSHB of Kansas City showed that $20,000 in cash was taken from Kelce’s home.
TMZ first reported the burglaries and said the FBI was assisting in what would be a two-state investigation.
A representative for the bureau in Kansas City, Missouri, said the agency “can neither confirm nor deny the existence of an investigation.”
